
Write the World – Fantasy Short Story
This 10-hour one-on-one intensive will explore creative writing and fiction, with the goal of producing a polished piece of writing for submission to the Write the World – Fantasy Short Story competition. Through lectures, readings, writing prompts, and discussions with the instructor, students will examine short story writing, and analyze creative writing elements for understanding and application. Students will be introduced to different genres of fiction along with various writing techniques, including developing characters, crafting exciting plots, creating worldbuilding through descriptive writing, and utilizing different styles of narration.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Create original short stories
- Develop creative writing skills in narration, descriptive writing, and genre writing
- Analyze short fiction for understanding
- Draft and make significant revisions to their own work
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- An edited piece or pieces ready for submission to the competition
- A clear understanding of what types of pieces have won in previous years
- A plan for submitting their work to the specified contest
- Good preparation for TOEFL and other standardized tests
- Satisfies criteria for Knovva Academic Standards, based on IB, PISA, Cambridge, and Common Core standards
- A Certificate of Completion from Knovva Academy and corresponding transcript
