AP Human Geography

The AP Human Geography course examines the ways in which humans have interacted with, understood, and used the Earth’s surface over time. The content is presented thematically within the subfields of economic geography, cultural geography, political geography and cultural geography. Historical information helps us understand the world in which we live in today. Students will see geography as a key component to creating global relationships and becoming stewards of the environment. The course will expose students to the requirements of the AP Human Geography exam and will provide helpful techniques for performing well on the exam.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Approach problems geographically
  • Think critically about text and graphic images
  • Interpret cultural landscapes
  • Apply geographic concepts

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Students will research a set of data and create their own visual representations of that data in multiple ways. Then students will analyze their own visual representations by answering a series of questions based on course concepts.

Beth is an award winning teacher, mentoring students who went on to attend Ivy League schools, including Princeton, Yale, Cornell and UPenn. Starting in 2018, Beth was invited to be an AP national reader by College Board, reading and scoring thousands of papers each year. Beth attended New York University as an undergraduate and then went on to achieve a Master’s in Teaching, with a concentration in Secondary Education, from the NYU Graduate School of Education. Beth has been a teacher for over 20 years and is a passionate lifelong learner.
